Abstract

This research aimed to study the edible coating starch making for preserving fruit as an alternative for junior high school science practicum on additives substance material. The edible coating is a thin layer that can be consumed, inhibits microbial growth, and provides physical protection to the coated fruit. The steps to make edible coating starch carried out by the researchers are as follows: producing an eatable coating solution from cassava starch, making citronella extract fragrant, and application on fruit. Based on the results of research, edible coating starch with the addition of 30% citronella grass extract was the best treatment. Grapes could last up to 14 days of storage and showed a decrease in water content and fruit sugar by 72.22% and 4.80%, respectively. Based on the questionnaire of the teacher's responses to the manufacture of edible coating starch as an alternative to the science practicum, the results on the material aspects were in the marvelous category (90.62%), practical aspects were in a good category (79.01%), the cost and safety aspects were in the good category (85.11%). Therefore, it was possible to apply edible coating practice in schools.

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the effectiveness of electronic-based student worksheets (E-LKPD) on student learning outcomes. The method used was a quasi-experiment with one group pretest-posttest design. The sample taken in a cluster random sampling were 32 students of class VII SMPN 2 Ngemplak Sleman School Year 2021/2022. The instrument used was a problem sheet in the form of a description. The results of the study were analyzed using quantitative descriptive methods. The results of the analysis of the increase in the pretest and posttest obtained an average of N-Gain 0.60 in the medium category. The average pretest value was 6.94 while the average posttest value was 8.80. Test results of t sig value (2-tailed) < 0.05 showed a significant improvement between pre-test and post-test.  This indicated that E-LKPD-based SETS was effective for improving students' cognitive learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study explored the constraints of learning science with an online learning system (on the network) in the era of the Covid-19 pandemic. This research design was descriptive qualitative with a phenomenological approach. Phenomenology is an effort that aims to explain something that occurs according to reality. Data was collected through questionnaires open to SMP/MTs students and semi-structured interviews with student parents. The data analysis technique in this study used data Qualitative data that were presented without numerical calculations. The study results showed that learning science with the online method encountered many obstacles. The barriers to learning science with online methods referred to three important aspects, namely differences in student learning style, technological literacy, and parental support.

Abstract

Drosophila melanogaster is a popular model organism that plays a role in the development of Genetics research and learning. The purpose of this study was to map Genetics lecture activities in Indonesia based on the utilization of Drosophila melanogaster during practicum activities. The data was collected using Google Form-based questionnaire analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis. A total of 113 alumni from 39 universities in Indonesia were involved as participants. The results informed that 77% of institutions had conducted Genetic Practicums and more than half had used Drosophila melanogaster. However, optimizing the use of these organisms in learning needs to be improved because the use of Drosophila melanogaster is still limited to morphological, chromosome, life cycle, and inheritance pattern observations.

Abstract

The lack of ability of students in learning science in elementary schools and the lack of ability of teachers in providing supportive teaching media according to the characteristics of students who have difficulty causing the learning process cannot achieve the desired results. Thus, it affects the learning process, low learning outcomes, and student’ cognitive abilities. Therefore, this study aims to determine the types of educational game-based teaching media in science learning in elementary schools and the effectiveness of using educational game-based teaching media used in science learning in elementary schools. The method used was a systematic literature review using PRISMA diagrams. The database used for the literature search employed three digital libraries, namely Scopus, Springer Link, and WOS (Web of Science). For the selected literature to be relevant, the searcher used the keyword "educational games." In addition, screening was committed to obtaining scientific article publications from 2016 to 2021, which discussed the use of educational game-based teaching media in science learning in elementary schools. The search results for scientific articles contained 36 articles to be analyzed and synthesized. The analysis technique used was a narrative method by grouping the extracted data. The results of this study showed that the types of educational game-based teaching media used in science learning were the mixing method, literature review, qualitative, and experimental method. The use of multi-representation-based teaching materials has been demonstrated to be effective in the science learning process in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study explored the ability of college students to solve problems involving buoyant force materials. The method used was descriptive qualitative, with the research subjects of Physics Education college students at Halu Oleo University who have programmed the Basic Physics I course. The instrument used was a description of five questions and interview guidelines to explore quantitative findings. The results of the analysis showed that the overall problem-solving ability of college students was still relatively low, with an average score of 40.6. The low problem-solving ability of college students on the concept of buoyancy in expressing the ratio of the lifting force of objects in different fluids determined the lifting force of an object by applying an equation and selecting the buoyancy experienced by an object in a liquid. The difficulties experienced by a college student generally in understanding problems had an impact on completion due to a lack of mastery of concepts. Thus, they could impact appropriately.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the Biodiversity on Mount Ungaran electronic encyclopedia in learning Biology in the Covid-19 Pandemic Era. The research design used was one group pretest-posttest design. The instrument used was about thinking skills.  The sample in this study was 34 public school students in Central Java. The instrument used was a test of learning outcomes with 35 questions. Data were analyzed using the N-Gain test and Paired Sample t-test. The percentage analysis was used to see students’ responses to the e-encyclopedia used during the learning process. Google classroom and google meet were used in the learning process. The data analysis showed that the N-Gain result was 0.625 with a classical completeness value of 94.11%. The t-test results showed a significant difference in the pretest and post-test data with a significant value of <0.05. In addition, the response of students tested on a small scale obtained 76.90% in the high category. Therefore, the effectiveness of the electronic encyclopedia of biodiversity on Mount Ungaran was moderate.
